Sözo Tozö

Bio :

With a PhD in sociology, then a senior lecturer at university, Sözo Tozö made a professional and spiritual turn to painting in 2022, after 10 years in teaching and research. The fruit of a spontaneous encounter two years earlier with acrylic paint, then with oil, the knife, matter and color, she signed her first illustration for a band with the release of Ferriterium's album Calvaire in 2021. Since then, she has produced a series of commissioned works for groups and individuals in France, Germany, the USA, Greece, the Czech Republic, Italy and Poland. 
She travels to major music festivals and fantasy conventions, from Hellfest to the Gérardmer International Fantastic Film Festival, and her canvases and prints were used as backdrops for the film Le Mangeur d'âmes (Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, with Virginie Ledoyen, Sandrine Bonnaire and Paul Hamy) in 2024.
Navigating between dramatic and dreamlike styles, her paintings are strongly imbued with the romantic references of the 19th century, but also with the mysterious atmosphere of the Vosges where she opened her Sözo studio-shop, which can be visited in Plombières-Les-Bains.

Docteure en sociologie, puis maître-de-conférences à l'université, Sözo Tozö a opéré un tournant professionnel et spirituel vers la peinture en 2022, après 10 années dans l'enseignement et la recherche. Fruit d'une rencontre spontanée deux ans plus tôt avec la peinture acrylique, puis avec l'huile, le couteau, la matière et la couleur, elle signe une première illustration pour un groupe avec la sortie de l'album Calvaire de Ferriterium en 2021. Depuis, elle a enchaîné les réalisations sur commandes pour des groupes ou des particuliers, français allemands, américains, grecs, tchèques, italiens ou polonais. 
Elle sillonne les grands festivals de musique et conventions fantastiques depuis le Hellfest au Festival International du Film Fantastique de Gérardmer, et ses toiles et gravures sont utilisées comme décors du film Le Mangeur d'âmes (Alexandre Bustillo et Julien Maury, avec Virginie Ledoyen, Sandrine Bonnaire et Paul Hamy) en 2024.
Naviguant entre style dramatique et onirique, ses tableaux sont fortement imprégnés des références romantiques du 19e siècle, mais aussi de l'ambiance mystérieuse des Vosges où elle a ouvert son magasin-atelier Sözo, visitable à Plombières-Les-Bains.
